This morning I was using Google Earth to search a location on the other side of the country. I began to zoom in and out on the satellite images of that specific location. The cool thing about Google Earth is you can zoom all the way in to the roof top then zoom all the way out to the Milky Way with just the scroll on your mouse.
Sometimes I forget how big God is.
I used my computer mouse to roll the earth around like a bowling ball. Moving the zoom in and out I began to realize how small I am in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes I feel like my problems, feelings, concerns, and questions are more important than anything and anyone else. But at the end of the day, I am like a grain of salt in the ocean. We get caught up in our own little world and forget there's a bigger picture.
When we were a child, we used to sing "He's got the whole world in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands." Even as an adult that's hard to fathom; so as a child, I had no concept of this truth.
I was speaking to a friend this past week and I said "it would be nice if God would just post a billboard with my plan and purpose on it so I would know what to do." His response: "But would that be faith?" Rolling my eyes I knew he was right! All we have to do is have faith. Easier said than done, right?!
There is a song called Oceans by the Christian band, Hillsong United. The first verse captivates me:
"You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand"
I zoomed all the way out and tilted the earth on one side where it was just a view of the ocean. No land in sight. I thought to myself “Two thirds of the earth’s surface is covered in water. Not only is there an entire world of people that we don’t even think about, but an entire world of ocean that I don't even know about!"
If God is so careful to take care of the living creatures in two thirds of the world that we don’t even see, HOW MUCH MORE is he going to take care of his people in the tiny little everyday world we live in?
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders”
In Hebrews chapter 11, the New Living Translation is titled “Great Examples of Faith”. It goes on to list those people throughout biblical history who had daring faith.
v.7 It was by faith that Noah build a large boat to save his family from the flood...
v.8 It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going...
v.9 It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old...
What would happen if you took the limits off of God in your life and had daring faith?
“Let me walk upon the waters, wherever You would call me”
In Matthew chapter 14 when Jesus calls Peter out onto the water, he says “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” Jesus told him to come and shortly after he began to walk on water, Peter’s faith began to fail, sinking, he cried out “Save me, Lord!” When Jesus reached out to grab him he said “you have so little faith, why do you doubt me?”
How far would you go if you removed all the distractions from your life and only focused on what God is calling you to?
“Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior”
God is calling us out, many times, to a place unknown. We avoid it out of fear- but it's in that unknown place we will find Him. Even when we feel like we are sinking, drowning in the problems of our life, God is there. And in that place is where your faith will be made stronger, when you trust that He's got your back.
He knows the end before the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). God extends his grace to us, even when we don't deserve it. When God is in it, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's time to step out.
My prayer is that God will lead me to a place where my trust is without borders. That when he calls me out upon the water, wherever that may be, that I would go and not look back. That he will take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger.
Thank you for joining me in my journal to Finding Grace…
Enjoy the journey.
